RAVENNA
According to the geopolitics of that time, Ravenna was not only the capital of the Roman Empire for almost 70 years, but also, through the Byzantine sovereigns, a bridge to the Roman Eastern Empire, based in Byzantium (formerly Constantinople and today Istanbul). Concerning the ruins from the Byzantine culture, there is certainly no other Italian place that can compete with the architecture and the mosaic works that can be seen in this important provincial capital. It will sure be a pleasure to leave the green, even for a golf enthusiast, maybe just for a day, for such architectural jewels as the Basilica of San Vitale and Sant’Apollinare and the mosaic works in the Galla Placidia mausoleum. Only 22 km to go from our Adriatic Golf Club Cervia.
